    Hi everyone!

    ESL.- English Second Language.
    EFL.- English Foreign Language.

That's could be seem the same, but there are some differences. The Second Language is the language you learn after your mother language. And Foreign Language are the others after the second..., but I don't know if the second could be considered as Foreign Language at the same time. I mean, if you have a Second Language, that's a foreign language, isn't it?

In Spain, English is considered as Second Language for the majority of our students. Then, Frech, Italian, etc. will be considered as Foreign Language...

That's what I believe, if I'm wrong, plz, let me know it! Thanks!

    Hello everybody!
For my Second Language is not the same as Foreign Language. I consider Second LAnguage as a co-official language which is also used to communicate in the area where you live, for example, Valenciano is a second language in Comunidad Valenciana,Vasco in the PaĆs Vasco, etc., as we use it for official purposes as well. Both Spanish and Valenciano are co-official in the sense they are at the same level of usage and importance; on the other hand, a foreign language is a language which is not spoken in the country as a the official language of communication between people. It is the language taught at school, for example, and for other purposes (job, businesses, etc)

ESL is taught in a country where English is the dominant language. EFL is taught in a country where another language, usually the student's home language, is the dominant one. There is an excellent article in BENZHI website.
